The world celebrated Ghazal singer and Padma Shri recipient has left the Indian music industry in shock and sorrow.

The Indian renowned singer's family confirmed his death on social media. The singer's daughter, Nayaab Udhas, issued a message on Instagram.

“With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on February 26, 2024, due to a prolonged illness,” the statement read.

Since the ghazal and playback singer's death was announced, celebrities including Indian playback singer and music director, Sonu Nigam and Indian PM Narendra Modi, and singer's fans have taken to various social media platforms to pay tributes.

Pankaj Udhas sang several evergreen ghazals and songs like Chandani Raat Mein, Chitthi Aayi Hai, Na Kajre Ki Dhaar, Ek Taraf Uska Ghar, Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein, Thodi Thodi Piya Karo, to name a few.

He passed around 11 a.m. at Breach Candy Hospital, according to a family source. His final rites will be performed on Tuesday. Pankaj survived by his wife, Farida Udhas, daughters Nayaab and Reva Udhas, and brothers Nirmal and Manhar Udhas, who are also singers.
